• ACC COORDINATOR WARNS CHAIRMAN AND COUNCILORS The District Coordinating Officer of the Anti corruption Commission in charge of Moyamba District Umar Sesay has warned the Chairman and councilors of the said district against making false declaration while declaring their assets, income and liabilities. The District Coordinating Officer made this disclosure at the Moyamba District Council hall during a well attended monthly council meeting on Thursday 25th July 2013. Mr. Umar Sesay said one of the core functions of the Anti- Corruption Commission is to distribute, collect and retail all asset declaration forms of declarants, noting that section 119 of the Anti corruption Act 2008 gave the commission the power to request holders of public office to annually declare their assets, income and liabilities. He further drew their attention to section 130 of the Local Government Act 2004 that obliged all local government employees to declare their assets, income and liabilities, assuring them that whatever information they avail to the commission would be treated with utmost confidentiality. Explaining the category of assets, income and liabilities to declare Mr. Sesay said they are entitled to declare assets they that directly belong to them, their spouse and children, asset entrusted to them and should not declare asset they are anticipating to acquire. He said the significance of asset declaration is to deter the corrupt acquisition of wealth and the ill- gotten display of wealth acquired at the expense of the masses, bringing to the fore the overwhelming powers of the commission to uncover any attempt to conceal unscrupulous wealth within and outside the country. He encouraged all and sundry provide in the asset declaration accurate and factual information as any false information provided would amount to an indictable offence, fine and imprisonment if found guilty. The meeting was punctuated with questions on how to fill the forms, the type of assets, income and liability to be declared as the forms will be submitted the next council meeting.
