[ADOPT ME TUESDAYS #17] Dont forget to join us at Century City Mall this Sunday for the 11th installment of our Scaredy Cats and Dogs event, PAWS friends. Speaking of scaredy dogs, that term is probably the farthest thing to call our featured adoptable this week. Read on to learn more about the daring dog that is Tallula. PAWS shelter staff received frantic calls about a dog stranded in San Juan River exactly a month ago yesterday. Nobody knows how she got there but three things were certain -- she had been there for two days now, the river current was getting stronger, and that if she wasnt brought to dry land soon, she will soon be overwhelmed by the rising waters as the tide comes in. Luckily, it was an atypical slow day at the shelter that time and the shelter van was in commission. Shelter staff, volunteers and caretakers rushed to the river to find the dog in the middle of the raging waters, seemingly unfazed as the waters rushed beneath her but beginning to show signs of exhaustion and hypothermia. Residents of the area were quick to lend our staff and volunteers a hand as they tried to secure the dog. She was surprisingly gentle and save for being soaked, was none the worse for wear. We are still trying to investigate the details of how she ended up in the middle of the swirling waters of the river but after a thorough examination, vaccines and spaying, our shelter vet has pronounced her healthy and ready for a forever home. She was eventually named Tallula which means raging water in honor of how she bravely survived her ordeal.
