#AGRICULTURE, ONE FARMER FEEDS A HOUSE-HOLD, A FEW FARMERS FEED A COMMUNITY & MANY FARMERS FEEDS A NATION: One of the most alarming deficiencies of our times is staring us Belizeans stead - fast in our faces; as we go about our daily lives, we as Belizeans, need to start asking our-selves the real & damning questions regarding our destiny, and where we as a growing nation see our-selves in this millennium, and into the near future: we are definitely represented as a third - world nation, due to our proximity, size, population & the lack of exponential technological capabilities: now, having said that; we need to under-study our curriculum in the Bzean class - room settings: educators, scholars, & the Minister (s) charged with the portfolios for education, human development & agriculture, must come together collectively, & dialogue pertaining to the very important aspect of agricultural education as a corner - stone in our curriculum: urgent and serious emphasis must be placed on Agriculture in Belize. This nations school system is one of the best in Central America & the Caribbean, in regards to our limited resources: for the past (125) Yrs, Agriculture has been the main -stay of the Belizean - Economy; Sugar - Cane, Citrus, & many more Agricultural - Products: the great irony of the fact is; these products are destined for International Export Markets. Now, I must refer to Domestic - Farming in our School - Systems, we encourage & tutor predominantly in the skills of Technology/Business Administration: Belize is a small developing country but; we find our-selves as importers rather than exporters, the margin on imports is far greater: we import Beans, Onions, & many other domestic products that Belizeans should be producing at home locally. The Mennonites - People, has impacted our lives tremendously especially in the West/North of Belize, with their farming capabilities, we must do more for our-selves, where the Framing - Trade is concern: cattle rearing by traditional Belizean farmers is steadily declining, when our Youth hears about Rice, Corn, Beans & Ground - food, they reflect on the toils of Plantation - Labor. Belize, is loosing her traditions for Independent Sustainability to Dependent Volnerability. Technology prepares our Adolescence/Adolescent for the ever changing world of Science/Communication, but they must be taught & encourage, that Business Administration can be utilized effectively in Agricultural Diversification. Belize, is still capable of self sustainability in Agriculture with extra to export; but the demographic is transforming rapidly due to the lack of Agricultural encouragement, and the requisite necessity to farm the Belizean - Land. Belizeans Stand - Up!!!
