**ALERT** Holiday shopping safety **ALERT** We had a purse stolen from a shopping cart as a female victim shopped. You can see the larceny on the video below. We show this to you to show how quickly a crime like this can occur and how easy it is for someone to be distracted. In the video the victim is the female in the dark coat. The female suspect in the white coat approaches the victim and distracts her while the male suspect in the dark coat and white hat walks up behind her and steals her purse. As he is walking away he can be seen hiding the purse under his coat. The male suspect is described as a Hispanic male with a white ball cap. His female accomplice is described as a Hispanic female with a white vest that has long blue sleeves. She also has on jeans, white sneakers and has shoulder length hair. Contact the Gates Police at 247-2262 if you have any information on this crime or the suspects. Following are some holiday safety tips: • When shopping it is important to keep your purse or valuables in your view at all times. • Keep your car locked and all valuables or packages out of sight. • If shopping late in the day or after dark, park in an area that is well lighted • Shop in pairs if possible. Take a friend or family member shopping with you. There is safety in numbers. • As you return to your car, make sure to keep your car key in your hand. • Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Pay for purchases with checks, credit, charge or debit cards if possible.
