*********ANCHOR OF THE SOUL********** My daughter did something really sweet for me on Christmas Day. She gave me the lovely ring that you see pictured below. It is an interesting little piece and I was enthralled and moved to tears as she told me how she acquired the ring and why she got it for me. The ring face is actually an antique French wax seal dating to the early 1800s. Obviously, pictured is an anchor with the words, Hope Sustains Me, written in French. If you read the little card that came with the ring, you will see that it says the anchor is symbolic of hope, stability and a strong foundation reminding us to stay grounded. My mind immediately went to the Word of God and to thoughts of my Lord Jesus Christ, who is my Anchor in a world that is tempest tossed. The word, anchor is used only four times in the Bible and all in the New Testament. Three of those times, the word refers to the literal anchor of a ship. It is the fourth reference that I would like to look at and it is in a passage in Hebrews. It follows... Hebrews 6:19-20 KJV Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. This wonderful verse tells me that the hope which anchors my soul, giving me a strong foundation, has not been cast on earth but is firmly planted in Heaven. My Anchor is immovable, incorruptible and everlasting for my Anchor is Christ Jesus who has entered Heaven as my High Priest and is this very moment in the presence of God where He is able to save me to the UTTERMOST because He ever liveth to make intercession for me. There are so many references in the Word of God regarding hope, which the Christian should have in abundance. In closing, I would like to share a few with you... Romans 8:24 KJV For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? Galatians 5:5 KJV For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. Colossians 1:5 KJV For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; Colossians 1:27 KJV To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Titus 1:2 KJV In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; Titus 2:13 KJV *********(my favorite) Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Titus 3:7 KJV That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Hebrews 7:19 KJV For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did ; by the which we draw nigh unto God. 1 John 3:3 KJV And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
