*ATTENDING GRADE 11: DAY 22* “At the gambling table, there are no fathers and sons.” -A Chinese Proverb Is anyone else excited that today is Friday? I know I am. By the way, I love the quote above not because I’m Chinese rather the proverb points out a problem in society. At the gambling table, it’s every man or woman for themselves. Life is a lot like that. In law class we played a game without teams. Everyone had to depend on themselves to think of the right answer. At this point, you couldn’t rely on the smartest kid in class for help or even a hint. Friends competed with friends; any previously formed relationships no longer existed. It made me realize that although there are many people in your life at any given moment, it’s you against the world by yourself all the time. Another tiny anecdote: I’m the one who got some of my friends addicted to poker. Guilty as charged. We’re all friends but when we’re gambling (with fake money might I add), nobody holds back. We all look out for our best interests because in the end…everybody wants to win.
