*** AVAILABLE FOR PUBLIC ADOPTION TONIGHT *** A volunteer writes: I have to admit, Im a sucker for older dogs. They seem to hold more wisdom behind their cloudy eyes than human counterparts their age in dog years. They are experienced in giving and (hopefully) receiving love, but still have a wealth of it to give and, more often than not, a willingness to accept it from a species that, in the case of shelter seniors, has recently betrayed them. Their frosted muzzles are the sweetest of them all and their dampened gait, a humbling reminder of mortality. Ceza was rescued from an SPCA in Florida and now, years later, finds himself at the ACC in New York as he and a new family member were mutually uncomfortable with each other. When I first met him, Ceza was a little shy and nervous about his situation, but happy to go outside and no problem to handle. On our next walk, I had become a familiar face and Ceza was willing to accept the place in my heart that was already reserved for him. He is a perfect walking companion - never pulling and often checking in. He seems housetrained and always keeps his cage tidy. He loves treats and will sit for them if hes up for it (sometimes it looks a little physically straining for him), or, uttering the most charming bark, lets me know hes not. Cezas owner reports he lived in harmony with cats, and his interactions with other dogs while at BACC suggest he could likely live in harmony with other dogs, too; he is calm, but interested when weve seen others on walks, and he has been polite and appropriate in playgroups. He is not at all demanding, but is affectionate in his own gracious way. He softly wags his tail when I pet him and will nestle his head into my lap when I scratch behind his ears. So, while I am a sucker for older dogs, Im certain its not just my bias speaking when I say Ceza is a wonderful, wonderful dog that finds himself alone in his golden years. He needs a special person that will welcome him into their home, respect his pace, learn from his wisdom, add to it...and love him forever! Ceza runs out of time at noon tomorrow. Act NOW.
