[Admin Roger] SMB rookie David Semerad says he wont back down on anyone in bruising PBA Finals DAVID Semerad maybe a newbie in the PBA, but the former San Beda Red Lions bruiser vowed he will not back down on anyone especially now that he is playing in the finals. Part of the San Bedas multi-titled teams, the good-looking Filipino-Czech said he knows only one way to play the game and that is to go hard, which was what he showed for San Miguel in Game Two just when the Alaska Aces were threatening to take a 2-0 lead in the Philippine Cup Finals. “I never back down. I just go out there and play hard,” said the SMB freshman, who was accompanied by his girlfriend during the Spin.ph interview. Semerad was at the center of two skirmishes on Friday night. He figured in a grappling incident with Dondon Hontiveros, which was followed by a head lock from Alaska banger Vic Manuel who was called for a flagrant penalty 1 foul in the play. [See Vic Manuel admits emotions got the better of Alaska in Game Two] Still, Semerad said it was nothing out of the ordinary. “(The games were) super fun, physical but that’s what you get in the finals,” he said, adding he has no problem at all with the physicality of the title series. “ Yeah (I’m Okay with that), why not? I can’t complain with that, Game One was rough, Game Two was rough … comes both sides,” he said, all smiles. The twin brother of Globalport forward Anthony Semerad declared that what San Miguel showed in Game Two was a proof that they’re ready for whatever Alaska bruisers will bring to the table. “We’re a strong team, powerful but plays great, we just got to continue working hard and play with confidence,” he said. “We need to step up. It’s the finals and it’s from the regular games. It’s not a regular game because here, every one wants to step up to the next level,” added the 23 year old raised in Brisbane, Australia. And what should the Aces and the fans expect from San Miguel in the next games? “Definitely, we’re gonna get hot,” he responded. “We’re gonna go hot straight away, we’re not gonna back down, if they retaliate, we’re gonna fight back and we’re keep pushing harder,” said the 10th pick in the last rookie draft. Asked if his reason for wearing a mouthpiece was to prepare himself for more hard banging, Semerad only lets out a loud laugh. “I’ve been wearing the mouthpiece since college days and I just continue to wear it,” said the new found energy guy of coach Leo Austria. Meanwhile, Austria insisted that like Alaska’s Calvin Abueva, Semerad is just an intense player, but not necessarily dirty. “Si David is not a dirty player. Siya kasi yung uri na masyadong energetic kaya minsan parang masakit sa mga kalaban. Pero ganun talaga laro niya eh,” said Austria. “Of course, hindi namin siya dineploy sa floor para manakit.
