[Admin] 各位同學,郭位校長出黎喇 Dear Students, Colleagues and Alumni, I have been deeply concerned about our students over the past few days, since my meetings on Monday with student and staff representatives. I understand that many of you feel strongly about political reform in Hong Kong, and that you wish to have your voices heard. At the same time, I have been deeply moved by our students’ self-restraint, their goodwill and their commitment to peaceful participation. I fully support the open letter of the Hong Kong Federation of Students to call for dialogue with the Government on political reform. It is a courageous and constructive gesture, one that demonstrates the students’ genuine commitment to use peaceful means to resolve differences in society. I understand that a dialogue between the Government and the students will soon commence. This is an important step forward and we ask all parties to value this opportunity for the future of our society. I fully support and welcome this new and constructive development. In the meantime, I appeal to our students to continue to remain calm and to support peaceful discussions. Please ensure your personal safety at all times, and the safety of your friends. Do not stay in areas where your personal safety might be at risk. As we said on the Facebook pages of the CityU Students’ Union the other day, and in previous University Announcements, your safety is our foremost concern. We will do everything we can to help students in need for the duration of the protests. The first point of contact if you need assistance is Dr Raymond Chan, Dean of Students, and his support staff. Take care and stay safe. Way Kuo President and University Distinguished Professor 3 October 2014
