#AdminIRM Mumbai gangrape rocks Parliament New Delhi: The gangrape of a 22-year-old photojournalist rocked Parliament today with Opposition members targeting the Centre and the ruling Congress over rising crimes against women. "What is the government doing to stop such events?" said BJP MP Smriti Irani in the Rajya Sabha. As the Upper House erupted with slogans criticising Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, the Minister of State for Home, RPN Singh said: "The Mumbai gang-rape is an extremely tragic and unfortunate incident. Law and order is a state subject. We have asked for detailed report from the state government, we have asked them for immediate action." All five alleged rapists have been arrested. The girl and her colleague had gone to the abandoned Shakti Mills complex in south Mumbai for an assignment when the men accosted them. They beat the colleague, tied him up with belts and took turns raping the girl. They left her unconscious and fled. There is shock and anger in a city known to be comparatively safer for women, at the sheer audacity of the crime committed in peak hours, right next to a crowded train station
