#AdventPoems Day 13 Natures Decs. Plastic bags and a bucket at the ready we march in formation into the cemetery and forage for our Christmas decorations. We snip away at the ivy which slowly strangles the japanese oak that blocks the sun to my yard, we collect dropped pine cones and a fallen monkey puzzle branch. Trees felled to make way for new graves provide a yule log just the right size for the table well all eat at when the hordes descend on Christmas Eve, I take a benign revenge on the holly bush which attacked me as I took a drunken bike ride shortcut home last year. I toy with the idea of climbing the silver birch to collect mistletoe but decide a broken neck is no exchange for the kisses Ill get anyway. So for the rest of the month the outside will come into my house as a nod to our pagan past and then on New Years Eve will all be returned to atoms, returned to the Universe; all burnt to ash in the firepit circled by well wishing friends and neighbours gathered in bonhomie. ©Robert Hill 2014
