"Adversity is the seed of greater opportunity" This thought was shared with me last night by one of the most interesting people I have met in a long while. The story of her life experiences and how they have shaped her perspective on education and leadership are extraordinary, humbling and inspiring. Swimming is a sport in which EVERYONE can participate, not just the Olympic hopeful. No matter what your size, shape, ability or social status, there is a swim lane for you. Over several years of officiating swim meets I have witnessed athletes of all kinds achieve success and overcome adversity. Before every meet athletes with special circumstances must report to the referee and without fail there is a swimmer with a prosthetic foot, a broken arm in a cast, a learning challenge and many other circumstances. The officials make note, and the athlete competes and is judged on the same playing field as all the other athletes. In the end, the stop watch stops, and that time alone stands as their standard, their next goal, their next reason to overcome adversity and plant their own seed of greater opportunity. This is what a pool in the school can do!!!
