(All the little ones are in bed. Justin, Jordann, Tailer and I are all sitting at the table. Tailer is engrossed in the Twilight series/book 1 so isnt an active part of the conversation) Jordann: (to Justin and I) So? You know that new song Happy? Me: Ooooo yeahhhh (gushing) I loooove that song! ~ chuckle ~ Justin: What song? Me: The one in Despicable Me 2! You know!? (start singing) Because Im happyyyyy Jordann: (waving hands, signaling hes got it Mom, stop singing! I wanna talk!) Ok...ok, well we changed the words since were testing this week at school! It goes.. (takes a breath to begin singing it) Tailer: (completely/suddenly animated bursts out in full volume) Because Im testiiiiing..... Jordann: (very upset to be interrupted and for Tailer to steal her moment) Taileerrrrrr!? Ughhh! Youre so rude! Tailer: (feigning innocence) Whaaaat? Me: (bellowing) Tailer!? STOP DOING THAAAAT! You, .... Tailer: (interrupts me) I didnt.... Me: (angry that she would dare to say her interruption was accidental) DONT TALK! Tailer: (begins reading silently) Me: (addressing Tailer) What did I just say?! (everyone at the table waiting for her to say To stop doing that) Tailer: (without looking up/unruffled and bored) Dont talk. Me: (shocked/momentary no she didnt just smarty-pants me) Jordann: Oooohhhh Tailerrrrr... (worried) Tailer: (noticing the silence, looks up) What? (looking at Jordann) Thats the last thing she said..... Me: (realizing shes exactly right....start giggling-Jordann and Justin join in) Alright Tailer! What did I say before what I just said!? Tailer: Stop interrupting people when theyre talking. (smile) Me: (relieved) Yes, Thank You! Dont be bratty! All is well at the Champlain House. The only question I have is How do you parent kids who are smarter than you!? ROFL! :D
