“Aloha, Modernism Week: A Modern Beach Party with a Twist of Elvis” Modernism Week will kick off its Fall Preview on Friday, October 10, 2014 with a party fit for The King! You’ll think you’re in 1960s Waikiki as the Hacienda Cantina & Beach Club will be the scene of the hippest poolside beach party in Palm Springs. Enjoy signature cocktails and delectable hors d’oeuvres as you “Twist” and “Pony” to the music that shaped the era. Cocktails begin at 6 p.m. and a public screening of the 1961 Elvis Presley movie “Blue Hawaii” starts at 8 p.m. Sing along to Elvis’ Grammy nominated “Blue Hawaii” soundtrack and celebrate The King’s upcoming 80th birthday in style! The exciting new venue at the Hacienda Cantina & Beach Club, designed by Chris Pardo of Elemental Architecture, offers an intimate pool scene with an outdoor terrace and bar, fire pits, and expansive lawn. A special reserved seating area will be available for cocktail party ticketholders, or you may bring picnic blankets and beach towels to enjoy the movie while reclining under the stars. Fans will swoon to Elvis’ image on Mobile Drive-in Theater’s huge 30’ outdoor movie screen, and his ballads will sound like a dream through their theater-quality sound system. Pre-movie entertainment includes retro cartoons and whimsical commercials that viewers of a certain age will remember from their childhoods.
