“An Apolitical Sonnet” (As described, although a “stretch” of the form) Tried to watch “Meet The Press” today, but failed. Too much dissection. Just don’t need it now. I think I’m on “politics overload.” Must walk away to get my head on straight. Besides, this morning’s disputes have all paled Before the beauty nature has allowed Me to see from my window. There’s no goad Needed to enjoy… and unload dead weight. I’ve ranted all I care to rant. Unveiled Before me stands a day gorgeous and proud. That’s where I must be—on some country road, Swathed in deciduous color. Can’t wait. Outdoor we fly ’neath postcard sky to cheer The brilliant, flaming ending of the year. © Verse-Case Scenario, LLC 2014 ------ The day isn’t just gorgeous, but animated. More wind again. Seems like a surfeit of that this autumn. Perhaps that’s just perception, but it’s definitely **my** perception. It really does seem that 2014 is in the process of giving itself a Viking funeral. We’d been encouraged by local prognosticators to expect a more colorful than usual fall, and we—or, at least, I—haven’t been disappointed. For example: here we are, a week-plus into November, and our gum trees remain still quite leafy. What’s more, the leaves that have stayed attached are turning a spectacular ruby-to-garnet red—not as vivid as, say, local maples, or as gaudy as the many “burning bushes” planted in the neighborhood, but rich, deep… “full blooded,” one might even opine. In some strange way, it occurs to me that weather and politics are similar in one key way: most of the time, given our human limitations, they have to be abided. Simple as that. But there’s a key difference: weather can quite often be enjoyed as well. I see nothing enjoyable of politics just now. Maybe that perception, in and of itself, is telling me something.
