....And Ekiti is Back to Dark Era ! By Ahmed Lawal Early hours of June 22, 2014, a senior friend sent a message to informed me about the final collated result of the Governorship election held on june 21, 2014 ,as announced by Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) . My short reply to the message read thus … and Ekiti is back to dark era. This statement was borne out of the fact that the antecedent of the winner of the election, Mr Ayo Fayose as a controversial politician speaks volume. The leadership of PDP had during their campaign projected Fayose as more mature and less controversial, Senator David Mark in his speech on the podium at Oluyemi kayoed stadium says that, this is brand new Fayose , while Fayose himself admitted that age and experience has increased his level of maturity as a politician than during his first shot at the Governorship seat which he claimed to be as result of youthful exuberance. But, all this did not change my view and lot’s of many prominent citizen’s on what his second coming to Government house portend to Ekiti State. Prominent citizens of Ekiti, most especially, Mr Femi Falana could not help than to respect the wishes of Ekiti electorate’s which had clearly demonstrated wrong political behaviors in the process of electing their Governor with a words of wisdom that Ekiti has choose to go back to Egypt .hence , the legal luminary opined, they should be prepared for another four years in Political wilderness . Senator Babafemi Ojudu in his own reaction, says that the outcome of the election is an opportunity to rebuild APC and wish Ekiti good luck with their new Governor elect .while E-11, a group of illustrious sons and daughters of Ekiti Congratulated the Governor elect. However, the event of the past few weeks and recent mayhem unleashed on a high court judge, lawyer’s, litigants in the premises of Ekiti State high court sitting at Ado on Monday September 22, brutalization of Justice Adeleye and disruption of Tribunal sitting on Thursday by political thugs under the watchful eyes of Mr Ayo Fayose has validated all prediction of the above mentioned prominent personality about what Ekiti ketes should expect from Fayose second coming. The attacked on Ekiti Judiciary is unprecedented in the history of this country and beat my imagination. The spate of violence witnessed since Monday and gruesome murder of former chairman of NURTW, Chief Omolafe Aderiye is a sad development in Ekiti state and calls for sober reflection on the part of political elite and youths of this state. The clear message l can deduce from this sad event is that all formal and informal institution in Ekiti state, such as Legislative, traditional, Political, Academics, Civil Society and Bureaucracy are in for another round of crisis with Ayo Fayose because the judiciary which ought to be the last hope and protector of all these institution has been humiliated and brought to its knee even before our emperor assume office. There is no way anybody or institution can challenge actions and inaction of the Governor elect when he eventually sworn in with judge’s fearing of being dealt with if they give wrong judgments. This is sad indeed. Even, lf Mr Ayo Fayose perceived that the judiciary has been compromised as alleged by him, there is a laid down procedure to follow, at least appeal court and Supreme Court is still there for him to seek redress. l believed that no one is above the law and Mr Fayose should know that voting on election day is just a part of the electoral process, while interested party has a right to challenge his qualification or otherwise for the position. Though, l have choose not to comment on the outcome of the last election based on reason best know to me but l want to placed it on record that PDP only leveraged on complains of large section of Ekiti Civil servant against Kayode fayemi led administration to perpetrated their evil deeds. The 16-0 result is unprecedented in the history of this country. In Anambra state, despite the total collapsed of almost all institution of government, general insecurity, over six month strike and unpaid salary of workers and denier of PDP ticket, Governor mbadinuju was able to win some LG under the defunct Alliance of Democracy ( AD) and same apply to Mala Kachalla of Borno State. Otuba Niyi Adebayo administration faced many challenges and owed over six month salary but was able to won some LG while Barrister Femi Falana won his LG in 2003 election which Fayose eventually won to emerge as Governor in the first place. Hence, the result of June 21 governorship election in which Dr Kayode Fayemi was defeated in all 16 LG in Ekiti despite his high record of achievement remains a mystery to every keen observer of electoral history and voting pattern in Ekiti state. But, thanks to Governor Ruaf Aregesola and Osun electorate’s for halting the PDP evil incursion back to South West region. Having said this, the mistake has been made and Ekiti electorate’s has decided but this does not precluded APC , Fayemi or Opeyemi Bamidele from challenging the result of the election at election petition tribunal because it is their constitutional right. E-11, also has a right, as group of eminent citizen’s of this state to challenge the eligibility of the winner of the election, more so that issue raised are pre-election matter which they have filed before the election was held. Therefore, the action of Mr Fayose to invaded the premises of Ekiti State high court on the premise of alleged biased of presiding Judge is uncalled for and it point to the fact that Ekiti is gradually sliding back to hobbesian state of nature. As our emperor majesty is preparing to assume office, l will only appeal to him to temper justice with mercy and forgive Ekiti electorates for their indiscretion in exercising their franchise by voting for him again despite his huge integrity deficit. Justice may be delayed but it cannot be denied. Ekiti onibaje ooo .!
