“And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek...” (Exodus 17: 9).That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional today. In our Focal Scripture, Moses told Joshua to choose men who would fight the Amalekites. The word ‘choose’ as used in that scripture is derived from the Hebrew word ‘bachar’. Another meaning of ‘bachar’, is acceptable. So the men who were about to be chosen to fight were acceptable men. Not everyone was chosen; only acceptable men were chosen. Friend, live in a way and manner that is acceptable to God. Do things, keep relationships, utter words and dwell on thoughts that are acceptable to God; offer your service to God in a manner that is acceptable to God Himself; get involved in activities that are acceptable to God; in fact, get involved in the things that God has accepted for you to be a part of. If it is unacceptable to God, then don’t do it. If it will offend God and is inconsistent with scriptural standards, stay away from it. If it is likely to strain your relationship with God, then stay away from it. Even if men approve of it and God doesnt approve of it, advise yourself appropriately and walk away. Whatever you want to do in life, always ask yourself if it is acceptable in God’s sight; and if it is not, do yourself a favour: dont do it.The men who were not chosen by Joshua were not evil men; they may have been acceptable to their family and friends, but they were just not acceptable in the mission that was to be accomplished. The fact that it is acceptable to men does not make it acceptable in God’s sight. When the chips are down, you have a God to please and a Kingdom to represent; and if anything is displeasing and unacceptable to God’s standards and God’s Kingdom, then discard it.
