“And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the Lord, nor offer burnt offerings without cost” 1 Chronicles 21:24. King David understood that a sound spiritual person cannot make an offering that costs him nothing for the Lord. Most people often give a $1 for an offering and expects God to do wonders in return. To a few it may be all they have, but at most it does not help us to give such and in turn it does not really touch God because it is more of a ceremony and not pouring out our hearts to God. When one has to make an offering unto the Lord or a decision to follow God, that person must feel the value of the sacrifice he or she is making. It is unfortunate that at times we do things to satisfy our tradition rather than give value in the sight of the Lord. Our worship is a heart worship, implying that what does not touch our hearts does not touch God as well. A decision or an offering made that does not touch God’s heart will never touch our hearts as well, simple because we will be doing God a service just because we feel we should just do something but without value behind the service. When did you last offer a service that touched your heart and cost you something that was dear to yourself? A heartless service is just as empty as a noisy can with nothing. We cannot rob God by the quantity of services, because it is the heart quality that is demanded from us. We need God to forgive us because we have offered too much of empty services in his sight because we are now loaded with pharisaic mentality of thinking that God is a man when actually he is a loving Creator who expects fruits from us. God in not interested first in empty quantity, but his desire is quantity which is qualitative. Jesus opening our eyes gave a parable which addresses us to carry an evaluation before we conduct ourselves in his business. God is an investor and would like to have some return on his investment. This is the reason why he gave chance to the gentile church over Israelites because he kept saying I have a vine, and if the vine is fruitless, I will cut it off and look for a wild vine to graft it in place of the proper vine. You might be one person who have been ear marked to be replaced because of your lack of seriousness. My friend read this scripture and learn. “For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish … So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? Luke 14:28-30, 33, 34. My friend it is wiser that we apply our good minds before conducting God a service because we will find ourselves in the same position like Judas Iscariot who reduced his position from being an Apostle of the Lamb to a curse and proverb. “For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take” Acts 1:20. My friend be forewarned and put value in your service.
