Well, not for this Aita, from Pathsala, who has now made a corridor in one of the shopping areas in Chandmari, Guwahati, her home. Tirus and I found her giggling in glee at the GNRC Shoppe, ordering the sales-boys around to get her bed-roll, which I later realised was actually sheets of card-board customised to her convenience. Amused by the constant crack of a smile on her lips, I struck up a conversation with her. Chilled to the bones, Aita reminisced of her days as a young girl, when she didnt wear any warm clothes. Tirus insisted that I give her my raw-silk stole, which I had wrapped around my head and my gloves. Without a single second of hesitation, Tirus and I wrapped the scarf around Aitas head and put on the gloves. Tirus teased Aita that shes looking cool to which she laughed out with sheer delight! Aita wants to go to a home for the underprivileged and is saving money to her account regularly to pay for her expenses in the future! She is still hoping and dreaming to live the rest of her life, happily with associates of her ilk. For tonight, she has bought herself a packet of oats. Tomorrow is a day when she will have to get back to begging on the streets!
