..Another Cardinal present, Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York, praised the Globe’s choice of veteran Vatican journalist John Allen as editor of Crux, while getting a dig in at the sloppy religious reporting so common in mainstream media. “Although most major newspapers in American cities have a religion section,” said Dolan, “they don’t really seem to get people who are skilled in that field. They would never think of hiring somebody for the sports page who doesn’t know sports but more often than not American newspapers do that for religion.
