April 7, 2014 Round 3 of the Keema Excel Cup will be held - TopicsExpress

April 7, 2014 Round 3 of the Keema Excel Cup will be held this coming weekend, April 12 and 13th at Queensland Raceway. Round 2 was held just two weeks ago, and with several cars damaged in the tricky damp conditions, the quick turnaround will be difficult for some of the competitors who race on a shoestring budget. Excel racing is action packed and very close, but that is not the only reason it attracts big fields. Excel’s are a fantastic way to start your motor racing career as it provides the best value racing around, but teaches you how to race close, as the cars are almost all identical. For the same reason, many experienced racers choose the Keema Excel series to continue racing into their “twilight” years, as they can race 8 times a year, without spending the family inheritance. For many, many years, even at the biggest racing events, the whole crowd would flock to watch the Gemini race, but nowadays it’s the Excel’s putting on the greatest racing that you will see just about anywhere. In round 2 at Lakeside, the series tyre sponsor Hankook introduced a new sticky tyre that all the competitors agreed was fantastic in both wet and dry conditions. It was also approximately .5 sec faster so the handful of drivers who didn’t update for Lakeside, will be bolting on the new #Hankook Ventus’s for Queensland Raceway, to get that extra speed. Glenn Bartholomew, who grabbed Pole Position at Lakeside said, “The new Hankook Ventus RS3 tyres were fantastic. They really hung on but you could still slide the car, and with complete control. A 65 second lap around Lakeside is really quick, especially for the little Excel’s.” After a really mixed day with a dry track, a wet track and a damp track, Brett Parrish finished the day on top and now leads the series on 178 points. Steve Cook had a solid day and sits second and the Lakeside pole man Glenn Bartholomew who finished 2nd at Lakeside is third on 126 points. Series young gun Michael Tuckwood sits in third in only his second race meeting, after impressing at lakeside with not only a few great passing maneuvers but also a sensible head in the damp conditions.
