******Aprils star of the month is Corrie******** Corrie is a 10 year old English Springer Spaniel, who has always loved her exercise and been full of energy. Her owners knew something was wrong when Corrie suddenly became tired during a walk and even became reluctant to move. Thankfully, her owners quickly brought her down to the practice. After a thorough examination and some x-rays, we found that Corrie had free fluid in her abdomen. Using an ultrasound scan, we were able to collect a sample of this fluid and suggest where it was coming from: the fluid was very bloody, and appeared to be coming from her spleen. Corrie was quickly prepared for surgery. During surgery, we found a large mass on Corries spleen that had ruptured, and was now bleeding. To remove the mass, and stop the bleeding, we had to remove her spleen. Thankfully, the spleen is an organ that dogs can happily survive without. Corrie made an excellent recovery from the surgery, and was a very brave patient the whole time she was in the practice. The mass on the spleen was sent for further testing, and we are pleased to report that it was benign, and so Corries prognosis for the future is excellent! She is now enjoying her walks once again. Well done Corrie!
