Quality Schools for Every Child in Every Neighborhood across the City – (How) Conduct an in-depth assessment to determine what is needed in each school to raise the level of achievement of all students to proficiency and/or advanced. Look at the facilities and develop a plan to address the inequities that exist (access to well maintained buildings, computers, libraries, science labs, play ground areas, etc.). Advocate for and allocate resources based on school needs with a priority on under performing schools. Develop a workforce composed of effective, culturally proficient and diverse school leaders and teachers in every school. Put the correct academic structure and leadership in place at Madison Park Vocational Technical High School so that students within the district (citywide) can excel in this field of study. 2. Eliminate the Achievement/Opportunity to Learn Gap – (How) Hire an experienced high level administrator to lead this work. Develop an implementation plan as required by the BPS Eliminating the Achievement Gap Policy and Plan adopted by the Boston School Committee with great community support. The 12 goals that include systemic professional development for staff; rigorous, culturally responsive curriculum and instruction; and parent and community engagement are critical components of the plan. 3. Restructure central to rid departments of duplication and dysfunction – (How) Streamline the administrative structure presently in place. Establish clarity in roles and responsibilities so that the number one focus is on service delivery to truly support schools. Look at the budget and resource allocations as it relates to supporting the underperforming schools. Ensure that the newly established teacher performance evaluation process is fair and unbiased with a focus on supporting effective teaching. Make sure that Human Resources is equipped to carry out its critical function of recruiting, hiring and retaining a teaching staff reflective of the student body.
