“As a Canadian, I will say you were a great country once upon a time; a model for all nations around the world. You led in science and technology and in the arts. You offered solace and sanctuary for those that opposed the dictatorial regimes of their native countries. You fell behind but quickly overtook the space race against the Soviets, relying on your initiative and hard work ethic—and an ingrained desire to never quit; to never be defeated. You were a great nation, founded by rebels who refused to bow and scrape to their European masters. I dont know what happened, but along the way you stopped being all these wonderful things. You stopped being the nation of the free and the brave, and you allowed those with money to tell you what to do and (worse) what to think. You stopped being about looking out for the little guy and instead turned into the peon of the super wealthy and the ignorant and greedy in power. It is a tragedy. But I still have faith in the nation that once was. I still believe in the principles it once stood for and fought for and sacrificed its sons and daughters to die for.
