**Attention college students: Medical experts say students living in dorms are at a higher risk of contracting Meningitis, and vaccinations are important.** Meningitis is a bacterial infection. The disease can cause inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord or it can present bacteria in the blood. “Meningococcal meningitis can be deadly and can be easily transmitted from person to person – especially those living in dense populations like dorm rooms. The vaccine is quite effective and has few side effects so students should be encouraged to get immunized,” says University of Colorado Health Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Michelle Barron. Many primary care clinics offer the vaccine, including our Printers Park Medical Plaza location in Colorado Springs: buzz.mw/bcypd_f
