Azfar Hussain: My young comrade Samina Luthfa--a teacher-playwright-activist from Bangladesh--is in this picture. She was recently lathi-charged in the streets of Dhaka, for she supported the cause of at least 1200 workers of the Tuba groups who had been on a hunger strike there for 11 days for wage arrears and festival allowance. The violence of the coercive state apparatus in Bangladesh--characteristically on the side of the rich and the exploiting garment factory owners in Bangladesh--has been routinely perpetrated on the workers of the country and on other oppositional activists at more levels than one. So this is nothing new in Bangladesh, although its undeniably brutal, atrocious, abominable. And this will continue with a vengeance as long as the current right-wing, terribly bankrupt, even fascist, unabashedly pro-imperialist, and constitutively anti-people and anti-workers government remains in power, and as long as the entire mainstream, undemocratic, and anti-people political culture (one that involves the Awami League and the BNP and the Jatiyo Party and the Jamat and so on with their ideological allies) continues to prevail in the country. Let the movement of the Tuba garment workers be victorious! newagebd.net/38290/police-storm-tuba-factory-drive-protesters-out/#sthash.ymRAqsYf.xNY3hyCX.dpbs
