“BOND… JAMES BOND...” In my nostalgic opinion, Sean Connery - TopicsExpress

“BOND… JAMES BOND...” In my nostalgic opinion, Sean Connery remains the best James Bond ever to play the role of the suave British secret agent. (Sorry, Roger Moore). When I was a kid, I always wanted to be James Bond. Damn, he lived an exciting life! Bond fought the bad guys and enjoyed international intrigue and adventure with those wild “Bond girls,” including the sultry Ursula Andress and Goldfinger’s femme fatale – Pussy Galore. The man with a license to kill always ended up on top! When the actor Daniel Craig was chosen to play James Bond there was a fan-based uproar of disapproval about his selection, because he had… blond hair. Blond hair? Really? The criticism eventually subsided and Craig went on to become one of the best actors to play Secret Agent 007. But now Sony Pictures wants to “push the envelope” even farther and select the first black actor to play James Bond. Black Bond? Interesting idea, but didn’t we already see a variation of this idea in the movie “Shaft?” (If there is a black James Bond and he performs with the same level of stunning incompetence as has the first black American president, then we’re all in big cinematic trouble, folks. Villains Goldfinger, Dr. No, and ISIS will achieve world domination this time around... From Russia with love? Not very likely, Miss Moneypenny). There’s a part of me that’s fed up with these egalitarian liberal shenanigans, because I know that the fickle demands of the politically correct crowd will never be placated. Never. With each succeeding release of a new James Bond movie, the James Bond character will eventually become so morphed and mangled as to be unrecognizable to the original character concept of the author. (Ladies and gentlemen, that whirring sound you hear is author Ian Fleming spinning in his grave). Sadly, I expect in the foreseeable future the first Muslim James Bond, the first Asperger’s James Bond, the first illegal alien James Bond, and the first gay James Bond (“Bondage… James Bondage”). Heck, in the future, there might even be the first “dyslexic black lesbian James Bond.” Who knows? (After all, the English actress Maxine Peake has broken gender barriers and played the male lead in “Hamlet.”). Where will it all end? I don’t know; but I do know that the world is often “shaken – not stirred.” Things change and often times, not for the better… But let’s wait and see and hope for the best. – Larry B. youtu.be/v0nKkhy8v0M
