#BREAKING Family of Stanford grad and SF tech worker, Dan Ha, says the 26-year-olds body was found in the water yesterday. My deepest, sincerest condolences to the family. Heart is breaking for them, especially since I met Joe and he is such a lovely person. Full statement below. My name is Joseph Ha, and I am Dan’s younger brother. I am joined here with my parents and younger brother, Mark. Our oldest sister Liz could not be here today but has been with us through this ordeal. Yesterday morning, the Coast Guard recovered a body found in San Francisco Bay. In speaking with the Medical Examiner, while the face and body were indistinguishable, the clothes, wallet contents, and phone matched Dan’s personal belongings. At this time, we believe the body is Dan’s. We are still waiting to hear from SFPD for a full confirmation. We have no reason to believe that this was a suicide. Dan has never indicated having any intention of harming himself. Dan did not leave a note, had scheduled a doctor’s appointment the morning of his disappearance, and was scheduled to attend a work event the next day. On his desk was even a note to return a shirt he had recently purchased. Dan was a talented and inspirational brother, son, and friend with a huge heart and brilliant mind who touched the lives of so many people. He truly loved life and lived it to the fullest. We are overwhelmed by the love and prayers of our friends and family back home and here in San Francisco, and are grateful for the support we’ve received from the local community here especially Dan’s friends and roommates who have helped us all the way through, Steve Liu of Sparxo, the First Mennonite Church of San Francisco, Dan’s employer Metromile, the Stanford community, and those at StartX, Facebook, Square, Postmates, Apple, Uber, and others in the tech community, and lastly the news stations and reporters who have covered this story. We will be holding a memorial service for Dan this Friday at 7:30pm at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church located at 16th and Dolores. The family is accepting donations to help offset the cost of funeral expenses which will be held in WA. We hope that the media will respect our family’s privacy during this time of grieving.
