!!! BREAKING NEWS !!! The Winchester Police Department is investigating a fatal accident involving a bicyclist and an SUV. A statement from Spokesperson Lauren Cummings: WINCHESTER – The Winchester Police Department is investigating a fatal accident involving a pedestrian on a bike. Around 7 p.m. officers responded to the intersection of Handley Boulevard and South Stewart Street for a pedestrian struck. An SUV was turning eastbound on Handley Boulevard from Stewart Street when it struck a male on a bicycle who was traveling westbound on Handley Boulevard. The male was struck in the middle of the intersection. He was taken to Winchester Medical Center where he died. The victim is a 59-year-old from Winchester whose identity will not be released until next-of-kin are notified. Martha Gaines, 68, of Frederick County is charged with reckless driving. The incident remains under investigation. Additional information regarding this incident will be released once it is available.
