** BUSHFIRE WATCH & ACT - DARDANUP ** Bushfire WATCH AND ACT for Davis forest block in the Shire of Dardanup Tuesday 6 January 2015 - 7:36 AM The following alert has been issued by the Department of Parks and Wildlife A bushfire WATCH AND ACT remains in place for people near the Davis forest block, 15km east south-east of Dardanup, in the Shire of Dardanup. • There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is approaching the area and conditions are changing. • You need to leave or get ready to actively defend. • The fire started adjacent to Pile Road. BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: The fire is contained on both sides of Pile Road, however hopovers may flare up under hotter conditions during the day and if not contained have potential to create significant fire activity towards the lower Collie River Valley, including Honeymoon Pool, as well as Potters Gorge. Westerly winds are forecast for later this morning, with west-south-westerly winds forecast in the early afternoon. Dry, hot and potentially stormy conditions are expected. WHAT TO DO: • If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear. • There is ember attack ahead of the fire, so close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible. • If you are well prepared and plan to actively defend your home, make final preparations now. • Do not rely on mains water pressure as it may be affected. If you have access to a water tank and plan to defend your home, start patrolling with your hose and put out spot fires. • If you are not at home, do not try to return as conditions in the area could be very dangerous. • Be extremely careful when driving through the area.Turn your headlights on and drive slowly.Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. SAFER PLACE: • Your safest option may be to visit family or friends who live away from the area. ROAD CLOSURES: Avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site Road closures: • Wellington Forest Road is closed from Wellington Mills Road to Pile Road. • Pile Road is closed from South Road to River Road. • Falcon Road is closed from Wellington Dam to Pile Road. • Kingtree Road is closed from Wellington Mills Road to Pile Road. RECREATION SITE CLOSURES: Bibbulmun Track Spur Trail is closed from Wellington Dam to Pile Road. People in the area should prepare for possible closures of Wellington National Park and Wellington Discovery Forest. The Munda Biddi Trail is being closed from Collie River, south along Richards Road to Ferguson Road and a diversion is being put in place along River Road south to Pile Road and Ferguson Road to the Ironstone Road. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: • Department of Parks and Wildlife firefighters, supported by volunteer bushfire brigades, are in attendance. EXTRA INFORMATION: • The fire was reported at 3pm on 5 January 2015. • The suspected cause of the fire is an escape from a prescribed burn that commenced in late October 2014. • The Department of Parks and Wildlife is managing the fire.
