“Be A Fruit Inspector” “But test everything; hold fast to what is good. Abstain from every form of evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22) Meditation: Have you ever invited into your life something that sounded good but later proved to be demanding, unwanted, or totally wrong? Have you ever repented of some wrongdoing and then found your sin wasnt ready to leave because it felt good and looked good to you? Have you found that something that once seemed innocent and unassuming was taking control of your thoughts and your actions? If so, you are not alone. My Grandmother used to say, “Come here boy, listen to me… “Everything that looks good and sounds good, ain’t always good for you”… Listen: Often times, we will get itchy ears, and shout AMEN, because were caught up in the emotions and mellow dramatics of the preacher…. Our passage of scripture (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22) Encourages us to be “FRUIT INSPECTORS”…. In other words Paul is encouraging us to examine the preached word carefully… If the preached word lines up with Gods written word, it should be embraced... If it’s unbiblical we are encouraged to shun it… Adam and Eve thought the forbidden fruit looked pretty good and tasty, so they ate. David thought Bathsheba was “FINE”, so he let his eyes wander. Samson thought Delilah was far more intriguing than any of the Hebrew women, so he hitched his wagon to her star. Each and every one of these biblical personalities found it was easier to bring evil into their lives than it was to get that same evil out of their lives. This is why we need the Savior. Not only does Jesus forgive us of our wrongdoings, He also sends His Holy Spirit who can turn us from our transgression and help us live a life (THROUGH HIS WORD) which is good for us, that benefits those around us, and glorifies HIM who gave His life for our redemption. Prayer Thought: Dear Lord, help us to realize the closer we stay to YOUR WILL, the better off WE WILL BE… Help us to study to show ourselves approved, that we can discern, The True and Living Preached Word…. Turn us from that which sounds good and looks good and direct us to a life that shows our gratitude for salvation through Jesus Christ… In Jesus Precious Name we pray, Amen.
