Be inspired.. This spring WARs President Becky McDonald traveled for the first time to Israel. There she met told a widow at 31 years old who lives in Via Dolorosa. Her husband was a drug addict, sold everything they had and then died. Penniless with a 3 year old child you would think that she would despair but this woman is an inspiration to all of us at WAR. Every day this woman gets up and cooks for 4 destitute Palestinian families in Bethlehem. She is called the Smiling Widow in the old city. To make an income for she and her child and the families that she assists the Smiling Widow makes jewelry and sells it to tourists. Her specialty is the Roman Cross Pendant pictured. To obtain this historic glass the widow and others dig into the ground and when they get to the Roman layer they dig up a glass that is an antique. Becky decided to partner with this amazing woman and placed an order for 30 crosses which just came in to our stores. This was a life-changing sized order for the Smiling Widow and she could hardly believe it. WAR is excited to partner with the Smiling Widow as she provides for not only her child but the needs of those even less fortunate than herself.
