[Begin rant] So, as I am sitting here at the beginning of a 16 hour night I get reminded once again how Dispatch is overlooked and under appreciated, a patrol unit called over the air letting all the officers know a local business dropped off a bunch of food for them. Sure, one could argue that a dispatcher Isnt out on the street, in the elements and dealing with volatile situations. But, I am still here - away from my family - to protect yours. Over the past few years, acknowledgement for our agency has plummeted. In the past we would receive food, snacks, cards and other goodies from departments. We would have dozens of things for each shift. Just this year we had just two departments drop something off. I dont do this job for respect. I dont do it for giveaways. I dont do it for brownie points. I do what I do because I love it. It just sucks to miss out on holidays, birthdays and so on. It is nice to be recognized though, in one form or another. [/end rant] So, with that being said.. to all my fellow dispatchers, call takers, radio operators and kick - ass ninjas have a good night, and enjoy a Merry Christmas! -CAZ
