“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” 1 John 4:7-9 “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 Happy New Year!! Well, it is 2015 and we begin a new year together again. This day brings resolutions and promises and new feelings of hope and self-will. People are thinking that this year will bring better days than the past and that this year will see promise and good fortune unfold. This is a day of newness and re-birth in so many ways. This is the time of year that we like to look at our lives and consider what needs changing and make promises to ourselves to better our world starting with us. It is interesting how many people follow this pattern year after year and then something happens and the promises fade and the feeling of hope drifts away until the snow melts and the flowers bloom. I want all of you to consider what this year can mean for you. It can mean the beginning of eternity for you. Every promise that holds hope in its hand is carried by Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Every single thing that you want to change about your life is possible because your true strength is in Christ. You have the opportunity to claim salvation and to get serious about your faith. Every other thing in your life pales by comparison. In the end you want to know that you did all you could to claim your place in the kingdom of heaven. I want you to know the most important thing that you could do for yourself this year is to learn to love more. Love is mentioned 310 times in the King James Bible. It is the feeling that we should have for one another, it is the way we should express ourselves and it is the reason that our connections with one another have such an impact on our lives. Love is the bond that we share because God created us out of love and Jesus saved us out of love and we live to express love. I ask you to allow more love to fill your hearts. Let bitterness, anger, resentment, envy, jealousy and all negative emotions be put away from you. Cling to love by clinging to the Cross. We can have a better year by starting with a better outlook on life. We can live our lives day by day as Jesus instructed us and know that walking with the Lord will bring peace to our lives. Be willing to love more, to express that love more and to trust that the truest and most pure love that could ever be given has come down from heaven from God Himself in the form of His Son, Jesus. I encourage you to live in love this day and to commit to that promise of hope to yourself day by day. May this new day of the year be a great one for all of you and those you love. “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:10-11 “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John 15:12 Love That Cross, Pastor John Collins
