“Birth certificate. Photo ID. Social Security card. If you’re homeless and living on the streets, you’re generally going to need these three identifying documents to access services, find work, or have any real shot at climbing out of poverty. But if you’re homeless and have nothing, it can take weeks if not months to get them.” Check out this great piece out of New Hampshire explaining the hurdles that people struggling with homelessness face. Staff at our street outreach programs and in our shelters help people obtain copies of these important documents every day. Last year, 23 youth in the Interim Housing Program alone arrived without identification. Staff helped each of the 23 youth obtain at least one form of identification.
