Blame-Game-IN-PROGRESS Delay in metro work not due to land acquisition woes: KMRL ‘Land for 983 of 1,116 pillar locations handed over to agency’)))))) The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is not fully justified in citing delay in land acquisition as a reason for Kochi Metro’s civil work suffering delays, sources in Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) said on Friday. This comes in the backdrop of DMRC’s Principal Advisor E. Sreedharan stating on Thursday that inordinate delay in land acquisition might prompt the DMRC to confine Kochi Metro’s initial line to the Aluva-Palarivattom stretch by June 2016. This was originally the scheduled date of commissioning the 25-km-long stretch up to Pettah. KMRL sources said that land needed for 983 of the total 1,116 pillar locations had been handed over to the agency. Of this, land is yet to be handed over for only 18 of the total 818 pillars in the Aluva-Maharaja’s College ground stretch – the metro’s Reach-1. This includes land for four pillars in the Muttom coaching depot premises, for three pillars at St Martin’s Church Junction in Palarivattom, for four pillars near international stadium and for seven pillars in the compounds of three shops on MG Road. In Reach-2, Maharaja’s ground-Pettah stretch, land has to be handed over for 115 of the total 298 pillars. This included land for 9 pillars at Jos Junction on MG Road, for 24 pillars in South Railway station’s approach road, for five pillars in South Station-Manorama Junction stretch, for nine pillars in Silversand premises and for 68 pillars in between Vyttila and Pettah.
