“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe” (Jn 20:29) If we look around us we see many Christians passing through the ‘dark valley’ sustained only by faith, without the reassuring sight of the Saviour’s face. They rely on Christ’s word, strength and grace to get through each difficult day. Think of the terminally ill, the parents of challenged children, or a widow who has lost her only child. They live in complete surrender to Christ, requiring no comprehension or tangible proofs; they ask no questions. Instead, they minister to the needs of the body of Christ and build up its framework. They believe that ‘the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever’. Jesus invites each of us to see beyond appearances and accept him as “My Lord and My God!” as St Thomas did. He wants to be recognized even without ‘concrete proof’. He is a living person whom we have to trust with love and wonder to attain the fullness of life. By our personal surrender we need to enter into Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. We must walk constantly in his footsteps, just as he was obedient to his Father. We should even be ready to lay down our lives for his sake. This is the challenge of believing without seeing. FRUIT: When life gets rough, let us neither worry nor doubt. Let not our mind, emotions or skeptical people talk us out of our faith.
