*** Both Spouses on SHBP *** If you and your spouse are BOTH eligible for insurance under the SHBP, be sure you compare the premiums and deductibles for FAMILY insurance to the premiums and deductibles for separating (one employee + children, one single coverage). It might be advantageous to split your insurance! For example, with UHC HMO, look at these premiums: Single Coverage: $181.32/month Emp + Children (EE/CH): $326.86/month Family Coverage: $584.80/month Single Coverage + EE/CH = $508.18 This means you could save $76/month, $912/year! Combine the $912 in premium savings with the additional $240 in bonus HIA credits, and you would have an additional $1,152 by splitting coverage (UHC is only offering the bonus $240 HIA credits to the employee, NOT the spouse in family coverage). This would bring UHC close to the same price as BCBS Family HMO. You will want to examine how the different deductibles will work for each plan before making your decision. I was going with UHC HMO Family, but by splitting up my coverage with my spouse, I am able to save over $1,150!
