“Breathe like a baby.” When we are stressed, we often breathe from the upper chest instead of down into our lower lungs. Take note of your breathing. If your shoulders rise and fall, then you are a shallow breather. This way of breathing spells “stress.” Lie down and place your hand on your belly. Breathe in so that you can feel your belly rise and fall. This is the way a baby breathes. When women are pregnant, they often instinctively place their hand on their belly. It is an age-old behavior for protecting the infant within. Use the same technique to protect your own inner child. Guard the peace and serenity of your inner child as you would a real baby. By placing your hand on your belly at regular intervals during the day you will encourage better breathing habits and release your stress. ©Jane Powell – Meditations for Women “Breathe like a baby.” When we are stressed, we often breathe from the upper chest instead of down into our lower lungs.
