************************CHICKEN REPORT******************************** Good morning, everybody. Its time for another chicken report. I noticed that a bunch of yall saw the pictures I posted yesterday. Ill try to add pictures to my reports. Im still learning how to do that. Baby Roo (temporary name of the baby rooster) has been trying very hard to get out of the box he has been living in. He jumps straight up and flaps his wings and climbs on top of the waterer and pulls every Houdini he can think of to get out of that cardboard prison. I decided he needed company and exposure to the outside world. So I got out the wire cage and set it up with feed and water. I found a spot that was in the shade and not too far from the front door (so I could hear him) and not too far from the chickens nap area (so he could see them). When I carried him outside, he was peeping real loud. I think the little guy must have thought the Ogress Who Feeds Me has decided to kill me!! Poor baby. So I put him in his cage. I closed the gate and stepped away so he wouldnt focus on me, but notice his new surroundings. He started to do that. He looked at the dirt and found his feed and water and then he lifted his little head and saw a gigantic black hen peering down at him. That hen was giving him what my friend Irene van Winkle would call The Stink Eye. Yall know that look. Youve given it, yourself. It means, You are lower than low and you dont deserve my attention! Anyhow, she was giving him The Stink Eye and suddenly one of her sisters spotted the new addition and headed over to the cage. Poor baby-two giant hens were looking at him like he might make a nice snack. He did stop peeping, though. I think he didnt want to call attention to himself. Thats not a bad idea. If youre surrounded by predators, you dont want to holler Here I am!! Thats just common sense. I checked on him often. I noticed that all of the chickens came and checked him out, too: the old hens, the rooster, the yearling hens, and the pullets. Theyd wander over and look at him and wander off. By sunset he was ready to go back to the safety of his prison in the bathroom. Funny how our opinions change when our situations change. Well, folks, thats whats happening in Chicken Land. I hope your day is calmer than Baby Roos.
