***CHRISTMAS EVE RAID BY OUR PHSGA HUMANE OFFICERS*** Last week, on the morning of December 24th, many were out getting last minute holiday preparations taken care of and spending time with loved ones. Here at PHSGA, our 2 Humane Officers Shannon O’Herron and Tim Harland were executing a search warrant at a residence located in the 800 block of Springdale St in Akron. 5 dogs were removed from the property as well as other evidence such as a treadmill, harnesses and a muscle building powder. Robbie Hollis, 51, is now being charged by Harland and O’Herron with 6 counts of animal cruelty and will be arraigned on Tuesday January 6th in Akron Municipal Court . Hollis was also one of the individuals arrested for felony dogfighting at the November 16th raid conducted by Humane Officers as well as Akron detectives, Akron SWAT, Akron Crime Scene Unit and Summit County SWAT. A total of 48 people were arrested that night and as of now, several are even facing federal charges. Going with the vibe of the day that these newest dogs were rescued, our staff has appropriately named them Rudolph, Gingerbread, Mistletoe, Candy Cane and Snow Flake. They were all immediately seen by our veterinarian Dr. Kauffman once arriving at the shelter and given plenty of treats and soft beds that night by our kennel staff to celebrate the last day they would ever have to suffer and feel any sort of pain ever again. And now exactly one week later, we are happy to report that they are all thriving in our care and recovering beautifully. Our Humane Officers have asked us to pass along a very important message to all citizens out there. Please come forward with information that you may have regarding dogfighting, animal cruelty or neglect. Without the help of concerned citizens calling in tips, many animals will often not receive the help they very much are in need of. If you are indeed in Summit County, you would call our organization at 330-487-0333. If you are outside of our county, please look to see who the authorities are in your area and contact them. When we all work together, a true difference can be made. On behalf of these 5 dogs, all of the rest of the animals in our care, and all of us humans here at PHSGA, we hope each of you out there have a safe and wonderful New Year. Thank you for supporting us!! And of course, we will keep you posted on this case.
