***COLD/WINDY WEEKEND AHEAD, HIGHER ELEVATION FLURRIES AND WIDESPREAD FREEZE POSSIBLE*** Yes, you read that correctly. Yesterday parts of the area were at 80º, and by Saturday we will have highs in the 50s and lows in the 20s. Lets break down the next few days. TODAY: I anticipate no more rain today or tonight, as the cold front is quickly clearing moisture out. Clearing will be ongoing by late afternoon with highs reaching near 70º. TONIGHT: Clear skies will abound with lows dropping into the upper-30s/low-40s. Though winds will be light, no frost problems are anticipated, but bring in any sensitive plants. THU/THU NIGHT: Clear skies will abound with highs hanging out in the mid/upper-60s for most. Overnight lows will be a few degrees warmer than Wed night. FRI/SAT: Heres where the fun begins. A stout upper level system will drop out of Canada on Friday and come barreling into the SE US. It will generate a surface low off the east coast giving parts of the NE their first snow of the season, leaving us with stout NW winds and a chance of the first higher elevation flurries of the season. The best chance will come on the NW facing slopes around Young Harris/Blue Ridge/Hiawassee, but flurries will be possible as far south as Dahlonega/Cleveland if current modeling pans out. NO accumulations are expected whatsoever with this. IN ADDITION: A widespread freeze is looking increasingly likely Saturday and especially Sunday morning. The strong NW winds will likely help keep areas SE of the ridgeline above freezing on Saturday morning, as well as keep the threat of frost to a minimum. After highs only reaching the upper-40s to mid-50s Saturday, we will drop down quickly to near/below freezing across the entire area by Sunday morning. Currently 20s look like a good bet north of Cornelia->Clermont->Dawsonville with low-30s elsewhere. This is a quickly changing situation and I will keep you up to date on the latest.~TW
