~~~ COMPASSION~~~ So my son wanted one of his late night drives around town to settle him last night , hes very anxious this week with the preparations for highschool . in our drive he pointed out a person sitting on a bench , he said i think they are homeless mum we should stop and check on them. So we stopped the car , we walked along and just casually read the realestate adds in a window at first so i could assess our surroundings before we approached , in that couple of moments we witnessed one car of drunks try to convince the lady to ride along in the back of their ute, and then another car , ask if she was ok and then hurl abuse at her. All the while she just stayed still looking down grasping her bag. after that car drove off , we stopped and ask was she ok ? she said yep im ok , we asked did she have some where to stay ? was she homeless? She said i have a home i just cant get there , we chatted and found out shed been in hospital ( still had her wrist bracelet on) but was released earlier in the evening , but had no way to get home , no family , no transport and clearly some mental health and general health issues. She had planned to just sit there until her pay went in the morning at which time she could catch a bus. we offered to drive her home and she accepted. we chatted more , her hospitalization was from dehydration and malnutrition , so shes was very weak. She explained that she has $30 to live on a fortnight after she pays her bills and has been eating just rice for the past few months, since she was taken of Disability after a review of her benefits and put on to newstart . Long story short , Last night we saw the reality of government decisions on vulnerable community members in action , she is struggling but there is no supports systems in place for people like her and so she was left in a dangerous and unpleasant situation . We gave her food and some bottled water, dropped her home safe and told her we will be delivering a food hamper tomorrow , and will be signing her up for the foodbank, she was thrilled to hear about that and said it will make a massive difference for her. after that My son was happy and said im good to go home now today had a purpose hes such a wise little thing for a kid who earlier today was having meltdowns because he just wants to go to school like everyone else and was frustrated and the long process to get there. at least i know ive raised kids with compassion and clarity ! if its the only thing i teach my kids im happy with that ~~~~ update~~~~ This afternoon we returned and dropped off some bags full of various grocerys and signed the lady up for our foodbank ( Angels Pantry). we chatted and she was so grateful for the assistance and almost brought to tears and the sight of grocerys. It only takes a small gesture to make someones life better ! thats what angels is all about , Compassion is about helping when its needed and understanding the plight of others regardless of our own situations. its Thanks to our supporters and Donors who allow us to make a difference in others peoples lives ,one person and one family at a time.
