(COURTESY LISTING - CHARLES CITY, VA ANIMAL SHELTER) Imagine Evies life. She awoke one morning and her human was no longer alive. Shocked family cared for her briefly, but realized they had no resources to keep her. So, she ended up in the shelter. We cannot even imagine what she is thinking....from a warm and loving home to a cold and loud shelter. We have been informed that Evie is about 5-6 months old and she appears to be a healthy weight (about 35-40 pounds). She did not eat the first couple of days she arrived at the shelter, but she is eating now and seems to have a healthy appetite. In addition, it is our understanding that she has had her shots (family is looking for paperwork and vet contact information). She does have a current rabies tag hanging on her collar. I called her to come out of her enclosure and she shivered. When I stepped in to take her picture, she immediately rolled onto her back to let me know she was submissive. I was slow and deliberate with her. I talked very quietly and her tail wagged ever so slightly. After a while, I bent down and she allowed me to pet and rub her chest. She began to relax. After the intial meeting, she has demonstrated an ability to be very social and friendly....even playful. We see a lot of promise in Evie and my initial impression was that with some guidance and love (and a bit of basic obedience training), Evie will make a wonderful companion. We would like to minimize her stress and get her out of the shelter ASAP.
