[ CTC: Throwback Thursdays ] Back in November of 2014; a UN resolution was put forward by Russia at the UN General Assemblys Third Committee, which deals with human rights. It called on nations to combat glorification of Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance. It also urged countries to take legislative measures to end all forms of Holocaust denial. ( bit.ly/1CHXn7k ) But when it came down to vote, Canada was one of just three nations to vote against a resolution at the United Nations that Friday to fight the glorification of Nazism. The Harper Government’s embrace of Nazism should come as no surprise to critically thinking Canadians. We are still reeling from the successful “renovation” of our indigenous Progressive Conservative Party, which has now been transformed into the extremist neo-con CPC government, dominated by Crime Minister Stephen Harper and his tyranny of the majority. ( bit.ly/15wpImq ) No doubt CPC apologists will use any number of convoluted rationalizations to approve the decision, but such a vote remains antithetical to what Canada should be. Other external manifestations of the fascistic CPC government – and the courtesan corporate media’s suppression of the truth – are manifest in the government’s unequivocal support of a Nazi-infested illegal regime in Kiev, Ukraine. According to Robert Parry in “A Shadow U.S Foreign Policy”, ousted Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych won the election in 2010 “in balloting viewed by international observers as fair and reflecting the choices of most Ukrainian voters”. ( bit.ly/1mKGhCk ) However once Yanukovych refused a closer association with the European Union through “trade agreements” and “economic reforms” his legitimacy became a mere obstacle to overcome. A “shadow government”, funded by the West, including Canada, triggered violent protests, the massacre at Odessa, and the on-going slaughters to this day, as Kiev tries to conquer all of Ukraine at the behest of the West and its agencies, including International Finance Institutions (IFIs) such as the IMF. ( bit.ly/1uoEIZT ) But if the irony of the U.N. resolution vote escapes you, let me refresh your memory and throw it back even further to March of that same year ( 2014 ). When Federal Justice Minister Peter MacKay demanded an apology from a local paper in his Nova Scotia riding, Pictou Advocate, after it printed a cartoon of a flag with a Nazi swastika flying over the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill with the words: Harpers economic action plan.... No hashtag?? #JeSuisPictou I would like to express my strong dismay and condemnation of the editorial cartoon published in the Pictou Advocate, MacKay, the member of Parliament for Central Nova, said in a statement Thursday. This image is deeply offensive, outrageous, insulting and completely inappropriate. I call on all parties involved to make an unequivocal apology. ( bit.ly/P6Ap7T ) And since were on a roll, lets throw it back yet again to June of 2012 and explore if whether our MPs are oblivious to the obvious or is it just us? Twice that year ( ... yes, TWICE ), the House of Commons erupted into yelling between the government and the opposition over Nazi-related accusations over two of the longest-serving MPs in the House when — veteran Liberal MPs Wayne Easter [Malpeque, P.E.I.] and Hedy Fry [Vancouver Centre] — “raised their arms in a rigid position, at a 45 degree angle, clearly the gesture of the Nazi salute,” during Harpers marathon omnibus budget bill session. ( bit.ly/1zBpQyc ) The alleged salutes came after MPs had already spent hours voting on the 150-plus amendments to the government omnibus budget bill. During the session Harper got into a routine of standing and bowing, with the Conservative members applauded each time he did. In an interview with The Guardian, MP Wayne Easter said he pointed at Harper because the prime minister was bowing like he was an emperor. Why dont you go over and shine his shoes and why dont you salute him, Easter said he shouted to the Conservatives. ( bit.ly/1wrifv4 ) If youre not scratching your head yet, then let me leave you with this last bit of Harperism ( See Bushisms ) and prime example of Godwins Law in action from April of 2012 when NDP leader Thomas Mulcair asked Harper if he intended to extend the Afghanistan mission past 2014 after a Postmedia News report said U.S officials had asked Canadian special forces to stay past the withdrawal date. The Prime Minister responded by saying “In 1939, the NDP leader didn’t even want to support the fight against Hitler,”, before being drowned out by cat calls. ( bit.ly/1CkE4Da ) NDP MPs proceeded to gently remind Harper from across the aisle that the NDP didn’t come into existence until 1961, birthed by a union between the socialist Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) and the Canadian Labour Congress. ~ Critically Thinking Canadian CTC: Throwback Thursday #ctcTBT ( Subscribe to our FREE ThinkLetter: eepurl/mPfXT )
