(Cameroon) State Corporations Pinned For Mismanaging Funds By Jude Fuhnwi The Supreme State Audit has exposed some irregularities and traces of misappropriation of funds identified in the management of some state corporations and parastatals in the country, from 2004 to 2005. This is the outcome of an investigation conducted in treasuries and on the receipts of regional taxes, from April 18, to August 13, 2010, and on administrative registers. The Audit bench of the Supreme Court presented the results of the enquiry in its annual report on Tuesday, August 27, during a ceremony at the Yaoundé Hilton Hotel, chaired by its president, Marc Ateba Ombala. In the report, the Audit Bench affirms irregularities in the management of the accounts of some state corporations in 2004 and 2005; notably the Cameroon News and Publishing Corporation, SOPECAM, the Hydrocarbons Prices Stabilization Fund, CSPH, and the Garoua City Council. On the management of the Garoua City Council, the Audit Bench ruled nine injunctions of refund against the Pay Master General of the council. As a result, the court ordered him to reimburse the sum of FCFA 1 375 444. The report also listed the reasons for its decision, notably the payment of vehicle maintenance funds amounting to FCFA 750 000 to the Government Delegate of the council without any legal backing and without any budgetary authorization. According to the report, the payment of a non registered letter of command at the council resulted to a FCFA 175 444 loss in the state treasury. Meanwhile, FCFA 450 000 was lost to unjustified mission orders. However, only 12 out of the 67 state corporations in Cameroon submitted accounts of their corporations for auditing. Copies of this report, adopted on December 28, 2012 and made public, Tuesday, shall be forwarded to the President of the Republic, the Senate President and the Speaker of the National Assembly.
