Celebrations and Events for Veterans… April 25th, 2014 Veterans Corner by Ronald Verini The celebration brought out the best in our community. At Veteran Advocates of Ore-Ida the cream of the crop came out to celebrate the “Governors’ Elder Volunteer Award” of Oregon. Three of the founders of VAOI were given a send-off the other day and will be traveling to Salem to officially receive this coveted award of the state. If you ever get a chance to read a book called ‘Minidoka: An American Concentration Camp” by Teresa Tamura, please do. On May 7th at 5PM at the Four Rivers Cultural Center this author and photographer will be making a presentation about the internment during WWII of our Japanese and more importantly our Japanese citizens. Our U.S. armed forces dislocated and imprisoned these folks and this event is a very important part of our American history, especially to the Japanese community around here in the Western Treasure Valley. Many of these imprisoned went on to serve our Nation and have become very successful businessmen and women of our community. This presentation coincides with the “What if Heroes Were Not Welcome” event that was presented by Veteran Advocates of Ore-Ida and the Japanese American Citizens League this last few months at the FRCC of which was very successful. Thank you all. Business After Hours on April 24th was held at The House that Art Built, and was especially attended by members of the TVCC-SBDC Veteran Small Business group. Vietnam veteran and member of SBDC: Jerome Goettsch is presently exhibiting there. Jay is also among the specially selected US Veteran Artists selected for display at the Pentagon.
