Chakwera Malawis Kamuzu Banda wannabe, declares himself life President of MCP Created on Saturday, 10 January 2015 15:52 Malawi Congress Party (MCP) President Dr.Lazarus Chakwera has started displaying true undemocratic leadership style following his recent move to force his own National Executive Committee (NEC) to buy a resolution from Management Caucus making him 2019 presidential candidate before national convention reports. The resolution was reached during a management meeting which was attended by his close allies within the MCP ranks. Our sources told Malawi Voice that the move was vehemently protested by MCP campaign director and renowned farmer Felix Jumbe as being undemocratic. However, at the end of it all, Chakwera got what he wanted, we can confidently reveal that Chakwera has imposed himself as the MCP candidate come 2019 and the next MCP convention will just be a rubber stamp of him. If this is true it does speak well of the Reverend. It is said resolution has also extended to all sitting members of parliament. The development is a complete departure and crystal clear raping of the party’s constitution which gives powers to MCP delegates to the convention to elect a presidential candidate. This is exactly how Chakwera duped the CCAP after sending him to study pastoral work in the United States of America(USA) where upon arrival he switched by founding the Malawi Assemblies of God. The undemocratic tendency in Chakwera clearly manifested itself when he pushed himself to the position of the president for the church. The power hungry Chakwera kept on changing the church constitution, a development that saw him being life President of the Assemblies of God in Malawi since it was founded. His life presidency came to an end when he duped John Tembo to join the MCP presidential race after dictating the church for a good 24 solid years. Surprisingly, in all the 24 years he has been electing himself president of the church, he never built himself a house as he kept on staying in a rented house in area 9 paid by well-wishers. The resolution to impose himself as 2019 MCP torch bearer, is an attempt to frustrate hopefuls some of which he faced on august 10 2013 at the Natural Resources College (NRC) in the run up to the May 2014 Tripartite Elections. This development also comes at the time when the MCP’s former President John Tembo is busy grooming his son John Tembo Junior to take over the leadership from the less and unimpressive Chakwera. This is the first time in the post autocratic MCP when a sitting President has tried to avoid competition by passing a dubious resolution, anew culture that Chakwera is introducing in the country’ long living political party. Some influential and bonafide MCP members believe the act by Chakwera is a futile move from a political visionless novice cum religious leader who is struggling to make it in the world of politics. To others, the move marks the end of an era that started in the 1960’s in the name of MCP. The faces behind the suspicious move include Lilongwe Central MP Lobin Lowe, Chakwera’s in law, Dorothy Chirambo Lowe’s sister who are all members of the management of the party. As you are reading this some NEC members are busy strategizing as to how the can nib the dictator in Chakwera in its infancy just like in a hoolywood movie.
