#ChrisHedges, rallying people to take a stand on moral grounds, just as Hon. Katherine B. Forrest (United States District Judge) did when she ruled in Chris Hedges favor in his historic federal court case against the Obama Administration. Obama appealed and the unconstitutional sections of the NDAA have since been upheld. This is wrong. It is constitutionally illegal to arrest citizens indefinitely without evidence, a lawyer and a trial. Just because the media fails to mention it does not mean it should not be discussed. Our media is as compromised as our representatives. The unconstitutional laws and the perpetuation of the psychosis of perpetual war (which no political theorist ever anticipated, from either Aristotle or Karl Marx to Noam Chomsky) needs to be called out on a massive level. Video screen snaps from tonight in Santa Cruz. Know your rights. Sign the petition: santacruzcpz.org The petition reads: Petition to Defend the Constitutional Rights of Santa Cruz Residents By Creating A Constitution Protection Zone On December 31st, 2011, President Obama signed the 2012 NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act). Sections 1021 and 1022 authorize the indefinite military detention, without charge or trial, of anyone, including American citizens, on U.S. soil. We, the undersigned, urge Santa Cruz City and County to pass a law making Santa Cruz City and County a Constitution Protection Zone. This law will direct our local government officials, including law enforcement, to honor their Oath to the Constitution they swore to uphold, “against all enemies, foreign and domestic.” Our officers will actively protect the constitutional rights of every Santa Cruz City and County resident, using whatever force may be necessary against would-be violators of the Bill of Rights of our Constitution. Sincerely, (Names of Petition Signers will Appear here) #ACLU #news #santacruz
