(Chuck Drollette) Ok folks after recent events streamside I am energized to start a revolution... The ethics and sportsmanship of the fishing community has apparently declined so much that it appalls us at Centerpin Addicts, however there is always a chance to change, with that being stated we want to invoke that change but we need your help. We want your help to share this status and promote people to stop, think and use some common sense. Lets start a SPORTSMANSHIP VIRUS 1.When you come to the stream and see someone fishing, If you walk up to them ask them whats working, expecting them to tell you every secret they have and worse off get angry when we dont..... we worked hard to discover it and we are not going to just tell you, use some manners PLEASE and THANK YOU goes a LONG WAY. Even then, try a variety, salmon, steelhead and trout dont change their eating habits that much.... try something and see if it works .... it just might. 2. If your fishing beside someone use some COMMON COURTESY and SPORTSMANSHIP.... While casting the normal zone of casting is with you face the water fro your 10 o clock to your 2 oclock if you keep casting over their line, they will probably cut your line and when we hand it back to you, we will happily tell you why that just happened and ask when you re-tie can you possibly also tie in some SPORTMANSHIP. I have seen days that 8-12 people can float fish a stretch of water all the while laughing, joking netting each others fish and having the times of their lives, sometimes even becoming good friends with absolute strangers. Other days it only take 1 A&*%^le comes into the mix and by the end he will be lucky if he doesnt get a verbal or physical attitude adjustment from the people he has pissed off d/t his arrogance and or his lack of ethics. 3. We dont spend as many days on the water as we do to have someone stroll in and invade the space that you there EARLY and sometimes WELL BEFORE LIGHT to secure and then have you think its all fine and dandy to budge in on.... here is a novel idea ... ASK if its ok if you fish there ,I would if I showed up after you and saw you fishing. Even if theyre in your spot, GUESS what, THERE ARE FISH IN OTHER SPOTS in the stream/river.... how do you think they got to that spot.... DIVINE INTERVENTION.... go walk and look. 4. We see more and more people watch us catch 1.... NO JOKE.... 1 fish and then theyre on you like a pack of dogs on a 3 legged cat, meanwhile you can watch them not see the fish RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM... take your time, be vigilant and be patient, it will be rewarded. If these types of issues of no sportsmanship, lack of courtesy and no respect continue on the water it will end up with someone getting SERIOUSLY hurt or killed when these folks piss off the wrong guy on the wrong day simply cause they are idiots who think that they DESERVE a certain spot or can go WHEREVER they please regardless of someone else already being there. If people just stop for a second, use some manners and think, youll be amazed how far it will go or the generosity of most of the anglers on the water. This can change but it will take YOU sharing this post for the **SPORTSMANSHIP VIRUS** to spread.
